Distribution:

Main Ecosystem:
River; River

Temperament:
Timid; Personality varies from fish to fish; some individuals may be more aggressive than others. The Orange-Finned Loach is a very shy species that will fiercely protect the place in which it hides. In small or crowded aquariums, the Orange-Finned Loach may become aggressive. Therefore, this species is suited only for large aquaria with many hiding places and tankmates that will respect its territoral bounderies. In ideal setups, this loach will rarely exhibit aggression. The Orange-Finned Loach is generally peaceful with its own kind, but it will usually not tolerate loaches of other species in the same tank.

Diet:
Ominvore; Ominvore

Care:
Feed blood worms and sinking pellets at night. A large tank of fifty gallons or more is mandatory for this species in order to prevent aggression. Use a fine, round gravel as the Blue Botia likes to burrow. Large caves as hiding places absolutely necessary.

Usually both varieties will be housed in the same tank, making them easier to identify. Non-dyed Blue Botias are occasionally called "Blueberry Loaches" but they are distinguished by the fact that they are a more natural grayish color and will not be kept with "Strawberry Loaches"

Comments:
The Blue Botia grows very slowly, usually growing no more than one centimetre every year once the fish is past 8cm. Body colour may vary from grey to deep blue.
