Diet:
Ominvore; These plecos will readily take a wide variety of foods. They will eat algae, vegetables (such as cucumber), live and frozen foods, and sinking pellets/wafers.

Feed with algae wafers. Will eat live food on occasion. Needs caves and dark places to hide.

Gender:
Males have a larger and broader head, slimmer ventral sides, and disproportionately large pelvic fins. 

Breeding:
Only a handfull of known spawnings have ever occured, most unintentionally. Breeding is likely to be much in the same fashion of other chaetostomids, this being usually some sort of narrow caveture, perferrably smooth wedged slate. Intense unidirectional current is preferred, and temperature should stay at a constant 76 degrees F. Sloping substrate is often used in the spawnings of C. thompsonii.

Comments:
This fish is reputedly difficult to acclimate, much in part due to its unwillingness to accept new foods. Thus, a substantial amount of algae is reccomended to ease the fish onto a prepared diet. However, once weaned, it is a voracious eater. Take note that a heater is not neccesary if this fish is kept in temperate areas. The water should stay below 78 degrees.
